Hair loss is not a calamity: try out ways to tackle it

Hair is one of the most valued elements in the human body. In the west is considered as a precious memento of departed dear ones to be preserved. It is no wonder that hair loss is considered by many people as a calamity falling in their lives. Reaction of many people on seeing a few strands of hair on the pillow, when they get up in the morning is nothing short of panic. Hair loss thus occurs in the case of all people but continuous re-growth also happens. Only the resultant loss of hair differs from person to person. Reaction on confirmation that you are losing hair continuously, are, interestingly vary from indifference to efforts to hide the bald patch.

The average scalp contains about 100,000 hair follicles. Five out of six of these are for growing hair and the sixth is at rest. It is a cyclic process with every set getting a chance to be addressed. The cycle consists of long growing face, a short transitional face and further short resting phase. The hair falls at the end of resting phase and new hair starts growing in the follicle; and this goes on in acyclic fashion. Normally, about 100 hairs fall at the end of resting phase. When the number exceeds 100, it means real hair loss. This may be due a disruption of the growing phase. This explains the normal growing and falling phases of hair.

There are many reasons why hair loss should occur. In many cases, it is heredity compounded by other factors also. It has been generally observed that a person with clean and regular habits and maintaining good health does not suffer from falling hair. Even they should be careful in the use of cosmetics. Thinning of hair usually happens after a bout of serious illness with high temperature, but it is temporary and over a period of time normal growth is assured. A very important factor in hair loss is the diet. A diet which is deficient in proteins, iron and other minerals and vitamins is certain to lead to hair loss. Maintenance of hair by regular washing or shampooing is a must for preserving hair growth. Using moderately warm water for shampooing will be of help. Meddling with hair to suit one’s fancies will also lead to substantial loss of hair. It is a problem for women after menopause.

No one can claim that a satisfactory solution has been found to prevent hair loss, at best using various medicines lotions etc; may help in reducing the quantity of loss of hair, but the loss continues. People who are self conscious being seen as bald, after failing to find a permanent to the problem take recourse to wearing wigs. It is a simple method quite popular among all sections of people. Hair transplant is gaining in popularity. A new method is scalp reduction combined with hair transplant. Both are very expensive processes and are done with assurances of providing a natural looking hairline. One session many not be sufficient to get the desired result.
